On the Other Side

Stewardship 2011

Excerpts from the Gospel of Mark
November 11, 2012
Pastor Kandace Brooks

This morning we consider what it means for us as a church to “go to the other side” with Jesus – to take risks, to step out in faith, to commit financially so that the church can become all that God intends us to become. Giving financially is not a complete picture of stewardship. Giving our whole life over to God with joy and thanksgiving is what stewardship is really about. Let’s go to the other side with Jesus!

Musings from the Gospel of Mark

Kandace Brooks

Dear Friends,

Many times in the gospel of Mark, Jesus takes his disciples “to the other side” – often referring geographically to a lake, but theologically this phrase means so much more! This morning we consider what it means for us as a church to “go to the other side” with Jesus – to take risks, to step out in faith, to commit financially so that the church can become all that God intends us to become.

I want to encourage you this week to prayerfully consider what you will give to the ministry at Tomoka United Methodist Church. As we approach our Celebration Sunday (next week) and complete our estimate of giving cards, I pray that we do so with a deep sense of gratitude for all God has done, and expectant anticipation of all that He will continue to do as we move forward together into His future.

I have said this many times, but it bears repeating – I am excited for the future of this church, for the potential that exists in each of you, and in the community as a whole. I look forward to what God is going to do here in this little corner of the kingdom, and I am so honored to be a part of that future!

So, let’s go to the other side together!

2013 Committment

Kandace Brooks

Dear Friends,

Several weeks ago I preached on the many “one another” commands in scripture. “Serve one another” is included in this list—and today (November 4) we enact that command through our district-wide SundayServe program. I hope that you will plan to stay after our worship service today to lend a hand and help serve one of our many neighbors in the local community.

In just two weeks we will be accepting your financial commitment cards for 2013. It is really important that you respond on this day so that your financial committee can continue the work on the 2013 budget process. I want to encourage you to prayerfully consider your gift to Tomoka UMC, and to be generous in your giving.

Over the next few weeks I will share with you what I believe to be our primary goals for 2013, and will ask that you will support these goals with your time, talent, and treasure. It is my hope that one year from now we can look back and say together, “mission accomplished.”

Blessings,

Kandace

Giving to God

Stewardship 2011

Sermon 3 from the Stewardship 2011 series by Dr. Steven D. Bruns.

The only thing we can give to God is ourselves. We are created in his image and it is from him that we have anything at all. God has no physical needs. Our perfect offering is ourselves, as a living sacrifice in unison with Christ’s offering for us. Once we have committed to this, all other offerings to him flow from it.

You Want Me to do What?

Stewardship 2011

Sermon 1 from the Stewardship 2011 series by Dr. Steven D. Bruns.

We need to trust God to meet our needs and not horde. We can’t take it with us anyway and God will watch over our loved ones better than we can, so why are we hording? Are we God? Can we ensure our security? The stock crash has proved that is not true. Can we depend upon the Government? Our current situation has proved that is not true. We can depend upon God alone.
